Origins
During 2022 and 2023, various UK Universities collaborated on a UK Space Agency funded project, with the aim of designing an online tool to assist the UK Space Sector to easily access guidance on global standards and laws concerning space sustainability. From this research project, the Green Toolkit for Space (GTxS) originates.
In 2024, the development of the GTxS continues. In order to enhance the overall utility of GTxS’ original and core functions, namely a “tool” to provide online and automated regulatory guidance to space sector participants, further tools have been added to the basic kit. These include the Marketplace, Data Repository, and Community tools. Through the use of all the tools in the kit, GTxS aspires to enable people, companies, institutions and regulatory authorities to design and plan their space activities on the basis of sustainable choices, procure the components and services necessary to do so, and provide access to shared data and a community forums relevant to such choices.
By the end of 2024, GTxS aims to have a demo showcasing how the various tools in the kit functions independently, but provides greater utility and experience when used together.
